Keeping Iso Joe

It’s no secret that Joe Johnson is beloved by the Pistons, as evident by their media day comments. He choose Detroit based on opportunity – to play, a great training facility and his relationships with key members inside the organization.

He didn’t have to prove himself in training camp or preseason because he’s earned that right as a veteran. But it’s also known that his best value comes in the locker room and in the new Henry Ford Detroit Pistons Performance Center, where the Pistons will practice and make strides as a team. Anything he gives on the court is a bonus.

The most difficult decision remaining is whether or not to keep Christian Wood. His offensive success in five preseason games were loud and got an entire fanbase on board with his play. He’s yet to stick in the NBA but has proven too good for the G League.

Wood averaged 13.2 points and 7.2 rebounds per game during the preseason, all while getting only 17 minutes per game. He was highly efficient with a shooting line of .550/.400/.833 and scoring 66 total points on 40 shots. Though, his defensive shortcoming were noted and, lacking a backup center, he doesn’t have the physical prowess to bang down low.

That leaves another tough decision.
