The Sacramento Kings star Buddy Hield has expressed his frustration with the team’s handling of his contract extension. Could the Detroit Pistons swoop in and make a trade for him?

It doesn’t seem like the NBA season is officially underway until the first disgruntled player starts making demands. It could be that he wants a new contract and the team won’t budge or that he simply wants to move to a team that has a better chance of winning or is in a more desirable market. Luckily this is something that the Detroit Pistons seldom have to deal with.

Stars have the power in today’s NBA, so these situations are sure to be more frequent in the future. The first disgruntled star of the 2019-20 NBA season is Buddy Hield, shooting guard for the Sacramento Kings. Hield spoke candidly to reporters about his contract extension and set a deadline to get the deal done with Hield saying, “If it don’t get done, me and my team will look somewhere else, probably look for another home.”

Hield was reportedly offered 4 years $90 million which he called an “Insult.” Hield’s agent is reportedly asking for closer to $110 million

This should set off alarms for any GM looking to acquire young talent and rumors have already been circulating that several teams will inquire with Sacramento about what it might take to get Hield. If Sacramento senses Hield may not re-sign at a number they like, they will likely test the market to see what the 26-year old could garner.

Sacramento’s willingness to move Hield will hinge on whether they think they can compete in the loaded Western Conference and whether they envision Hield as part of their core moving forward. Sacramento has an exciting young team with De’Aaron Fox, Hield and Marvin Bagley but may not be able to realistically keep all three, who are all due for new contracts in the near future .

Hield’s age and ascending talent should put him squarely on the Detroit Pistons’ radar, but is he a good fit?
