Detroit Pistons player grades in 119-110 win over Indiana Pacers
Power Forwards
Markieff Morris: C-
Markieff Morris had a lot of hype going into this season and game, but he had a night to forget. Shooting 3-for-11 from the field and going 1-for-4 from 3-point range isn’t the start that he imagined. A lot of people on Twitter were talking about how they really didn’t like what they were seeing from Morris but I disagree.
Morris was setting screens moving with out the ball and bringing Domantas Sabonis or Myles Turner out to the perimeter clearing the space for Drummond to go to work. For me, he played well but his shots just didn’t fall. His ability to stretch the floor will hopefully allow Drummond to have more huge games like the one he had last night.
Morris, Kennard, and Rose are going to be a problem for the second units of other team’s benches.
Thon Maker: D
Thon Maker had another terrible game and it is really going to be a tough time watching him play meaningful minutes and take time away from Wood. Hopefully his 16 minutes were more than normal due to Griffin’s absence but I have a bad feeling that he will be playing in front of Wood this season and along side Morris.
Only grabbing two rebounds as a seven-footer against smaller guys, missing all 3-pointers he attempted and committing bad weak fouls, Maker had almost no bright spots. Unfortunately for Maker, his charge that he drew on T.J. Warren was a good one but Warren hit the floor hard and needed assistance and hopefully he’ll be ok going forward. Maker will always have that potential about him and maybe, just maybe he will go back to his dominant days in high school.
