Detroit Pistons fans have clamored for D’Angelo Russell but is the recent injury to Stephen Curry going to prohibit a potential deal?

Detroit Pistons fans have clamored for acquiring D’Angelo Russell but they may be in doubt with the recent events in California.

After trailing by 30 at the half, the Golden State Warriors suffered a bigger blow. Stephen Curry broke his left hand early in the third quarter and is out for at least three months, The Athletic’s Shams Charania reported Friday.

A strong case could be made for the Warriors to deal Russell and other players, such as Willie Cauley-Stein, Glen Robinson III and several others. A stronger case could be made for keeping the players and playing it out.

Without a timetable, it’s hard to be certain about either outcome. In talking with Blue Man Hoop Site Expert, Nathan Beighle, he believes the Warriors will hang on to Russell, and even wrote about it.

Golden State could go full-on tank with Klay Thompson out, recovering from a torn Anterior Cruciate Ligament suffered in last year’s playoffs. Especially if Curry misses significant time, it could be a quick rebuild in the Bay Area a la late-90’s San Antonio Spurs, when David Robinson missed all but six games of the 1996-97 season leading to selecting Tim Duncan first overall.

Teams are reportedly doing their due justice on checking on Russell’s availability and, presumably, the Pistons could be among them. “Including a playoff Eastern Conference team,” reported Legion Hoops’ Ross.

In the past, the Piston Powered team has analyzed trading Andre Drummond and a package centered around Reggie Jackson and expiring contracts. Both, seemingly, could have some substance depending on the direction the Warriors front office wants to go in.

Let’s examine the options.
