Bogdan Bogdanovic is reportedly unhappy with the Sacramento Kings. Could the Detroit Pistons be beneficiaries of a buy-low opportunity?

Sacramento Kings’ wing Bogdan Bogdanovic is unhappy with his playing time in Sacramento and is not into the idea of being a backup, according to ESPN’s Tim MacMahon, and the Detroit Pistons should have interest.

Sacramento recently committed to guard Buddy Hield and already had small forward Harrison Barnes locked up with Marvin Bagley and De’Aaron Fox soon due for extensions as well. This likely leaves Bogdanovic as the odd man out unless he is willing to accept a discounted offer to stay with the Kings, which he almost certainly isn’t after turning down a four-year, $51.4 million extension.

Sacramento could just play out the season and see what it would take to retain Bogdanovic as a restricted free agent, but after a slow start the Kings may decide that now is the time to see what he would net in the open market. The free agent crop of 2020 is weak, and some team will almost certainly make Bogdanovic an offer that is higher than what the Kings are willing or able to give.

If there is one thing we have learned about the Detroit Pistons early in the season, it’s that they lack quality depth, especially at the two guard and small forward positions. Even when Blake Griffin and Reggie Jackson eventually return, the Pistons are still not a deep team.

Currently they have one good shooting guard in Luke Kennard, one serviceable small forward in Tony Snell and then a bunch of parts. Bruce Brown has struggled early, Langston Galloway is inconsistent, and youngsters Khyri Thomas and Sviatoslav Mykhailiuk are unproven.

Detroit desperately needs size, depth and shooting on the wing and Bogdanovic could be an upgrade. Here is a look at what it might take to acquire the disgruntled Kings’ guard and how he might fit on the Pistons’ roster presently and in the future.
