The Detroit Pistons aren’t at full strength, are 4-9 and had a glimpse of their potentially new city edition jerseys Monday night, and they weren’t popular.
Detroit Pistons owner Tom Gores has been part of a team trying to lure a Major League Soccer team to Detroit and the potentially leaked Pistons jerseys are exactly what you’d expect for a soccer team.
That’s what first came to mind when a red-based jersey with two, large vertical stripes down the middle surfaced at 6:37 p.m. Monday night. It’s the typical “Motor City” text in white with white numbers, as showcased at a Champs store.

Detroit is 4-9 to start the season, having only played two games with All-NBA forward Blake Griffin. He isn’t at full strength. Reggie Jackson tried to give it a go early in the season but was sidelined after two games with a back injury and will miss at least six weeks in total.
The good news is the schedule is light until the All-Star break, aside from a West coast trip over New Year’s. But for the Pistons, who have yet to confirm or deny this is their new city edition jersey, they took another loss in the public eye on Twitter.
It’s not surprising given the outcry of fans that wanted a red-based alternate, which they’re getting if this holds true, and those who wanted the teal “horse” jerseys to be brought back. Detroit News reporter Rod Beard reported Monday night the teals won’t come until 2022, at the earliest.
The Pistons are supposed to debut their city edition jerseys on Nov. 29 against the Charlotte Hornets, according to lockervision.nba.com, which is a website that has the uniform plans for each NBA game. Detroit’s jersey for that game are not yet available to view. But Beard reports they could be shared this week.

The jerseys are somewhat of a reminder, at least with the color scheme, of the French flag. Really it’s just a way to transition to a Sekou Doumbouya plug.
He’s played well for the Grand Rapids Drive. While some fans may be frustrated he isn’t contributing to the Pistons now, his development is key. We set realistic expectations for him in this summer.
