Detroit Pistons’ greatest gifts of all-time
By Tyler Lucas
8. Mark Aguirre
In February of 1989 the Pistons made a bold move in trading away their high scoring big man Adrian Dantley and a first-round pick in order to bring in All-Star forward Mark Aguirre.
Aguirre was an instant fit in the middle of this Bad Boys team that already featured stars like Isiah Thomas, Bill Laimbeer, and Dennis Rodman. Aguirre was the missing piece on that roster, a player perfectly capable of getting his own, but didn’t show any hesitation to sacrifice and do exactly what the team needed of him to succeed.
While he didn’t put up gaudy numbers, he was a solid veteran presence and played tenacious defense night in and night out and complimented the game of the other stars flawlessly. Aguirre was another one of the players that Jack McCloskey was able to make an amazing deal for and add to the mix for the Bad Boys, putting the finishing touches on a championship team.
