The Detroit Pistons were finally able to secure a victory over a struggling Golden State team, winning 111-104. Detroit’s young core led the charge.

It happened, the Detroit Pistons have finally won again! Tonight was a tremendous showing from the Pistons younger group of players. The 19 year old rookie Sekou Doumbouya logged 38 minutes of action while recording 16 points and 10 rebounds on 60 percent shooting. It was his second consecutive NBA start and has recorded a double-double in both games.

Bruce Brown scored 14 points to go along with 4 rebounds and 4 assists. Both he and Svi Mykhaililuk have grown into their elevated roles these last few weeks. They’ve both been forced into seeing larger minutes due to the sheer number of injuries the Pistons have suffered, and although Detroit has come up on the losing end more often than not as of late, they hustle until the very end.

Derrick Rose also came up huge tonight, scoring 22 points and almost refusing to miss in the second half. He went slightly over his minute restriction tonight, however it was entirely necessary due to how dominant he was in his ability to enter the paint and attack the rim. He was a significant reason that the Pistons were able to pull off the victory tonight.

Despite a remarkable disparity in attempted free throws tonight, (Golden State attempted 32 compared to just 16 for Detroit) the Pistons were able to obliterate the Warriors in the paint, outscoring them 52-32. Detroit also shot an outstanding 51.8  percent from the field tonight, propelling them to a much needed victory.

There’s not necessarily a place to mention this – but it still needs to be pointed out. The Warriors had 75 bench point tonight. seventy-five. That’s outstanding, and major props to them for that.

Golden State was nearly able to claw back into the game tonight after Detroit had at one point led by 13 points. The Warriors utilized an 8-0 run to end the third quarter to make it a game again. They shot 52.4 percent from three-point range tonight which – was more or less expected considering the Pistons are one of the worst teams in the league when it comes to perimeter defense.

However thanks to the heroics of Rose and his outstanding ability to create a good look at the basket for himself, the Pistons were finally able to come out on top.

To see some of the Pistons younger players go out and shine means the world to the fans. This season has been plagued with bad news, so to catch a silver lining here and there tends to feel pretty outstanding. Doumbouya has so far been everything fans hoped he could be. (and maybe even more?)

With injuries and trade rumors currently surrounding this franchise, it’s nice to see what will presumably be our future talent go out and get some quality run in. It feels good to be back in the win column.
