3) Build for the Future

The Detroit Pistons have zero playoff wins in the last decade, and also have accumulated zero top-five draft picks. This is the true definition of a mediocre basketball team. The Pistons have been stuck in purgatory for far too long now, and the only way to get around that is to make it a little worse before it gets better.

More from PistonPowered

A team can’t grow when they’re perpetually stuck in the middle, not good enough to threaten contention, and not bad enough to accumulate worthwhile draft picks (You still have to draft well, I know). The reason the Pistons have been stuck here for so long is because management has seemingly failed to pick a true direction, and trading Andre and committing to our future is certainly making that decision.

The Pistons will get even worse before they get better, but making a true commitment to our core of young guys like Luke Kennard, Bruce Brown, Christian Wood, and Sekou Doumbouya, and adding even more future assets by trading away Drummond will give this organization something to look forward to in the future.

Drummond is good enough to bring in a solid draft pick or a couple of young prospects from another team, and it will help increase their odds to get a top pock in the lottery. Focusing on our young guys and growing our young assets as much as possible is the best route for the Pistons to take, and it’s the way they’re going to have to go once they trade Drummond.

I’m not going to lie to you, this will more than likely get ugly, but the reward could be a team that can contend in the league for years to come.

Next. 3 questions the Pistons must answer before making a trade. dark

We love you Dre, and we’re going to miss you, but it’s time for us to go our separate ways. Trust me, it’s for the best.
