Detroit Pistons 2020 NBA Draft Profile: Killian Hayes
Weaknesses
His shot isn’t as pure as some of the other guards in this draft but as the season has gone on it continues to fall more often for him and has a rather good form which points towards the fact that he will continue to trend upwards, but its not a polished shot yet.
His pull-up jumper is also something to look at questionably when talking about going to the NBA level, it’s not on the level of some other guards in this draft (i.e. Lamelo Ball or Theo Maledon).
Having a consistent form in his jumper is the biggest question mark when it comes to his pull-up game, some attempts look great with squared up strong releases while sometimes he’s not squared up on the basket and has a tendency to release the shot while he’s still on the way up.
Hayes has a tendency to rely too heavily on his floater even when going up against contact, despite having a somewhat large frame for a guard, contact doesn’t seem to be something he regularly welcomes and handles well.
A few years in an NBA strength program alongside constant shooting coaches tweaking his mechanics is something that more than likely helps correct those habits.
