3. Rose’s All-Star resurgence

Chicago and Detroit have long been sports rivals but this is probably something everyone can agree on: Derrick Rose should be an All-Star in 2020. It’s something that was unfathomable after a gruesome ACL tear that ended his previous All-Star season.

Seven season later, including a lost season in 2012-13, Rose is a shadow of his former self athletically but is on par with how he was playing before his injuries. He’s playing two-thirds of the minutes he did in 2012-13. It’ll be an exciting revelation if he’s selected since his hometown of Chicago is hosting.

Rose has transformed to add a 3-point shot. He’s shooting 33% from 3-point range this season after a career-best 37% as a combo guard with the Minnesota Timberwolves last season. This season he’s shooting a career-best 49% from the floor.

His 21.8 Player Efficiency Rating is his best since posting a 23 in that 2011-12 season. Rose is feeling good and wants to get more minutes but the Pistons have done a good job of managing his minutes. Thus he’s been able to help them with 1.9 win shares (1.6 offensive) this season.
