The most efficient game of the season
It goes without say that tonight’s win over the Celtics will go down as the most complete performance of the season. While Pistons fans may not have a lot to be celebrating these days, they can relish in the fact that they went into a hostile environment and knocked off one of the NBA’s top teams. In longevity sure, this game is meaningless. But that was a win, folks.
Five players for Detroit scored in double figures tonight, and of those five players four of them missed three shots or less. The Pistons down the stretch were more or less able to do whatever they wanted, and at one point in the fourth quarter had stretched their lead out to 21 points.
Detroit opened the game by hitting their first four shots, which allowed them to establish an early rhythm and jump out to a quick lead. While admittedly we saw some pretty rough minutes from the second unit to close out the quarter, the Pistons were able to maintain the lead and for the most part carried that same momentum for the better part of 48 minutes.
Markieff Morris was exceptional tonight, which was a relief to see given the struggles he faced after returning from injury. He ended the first half with 17 points (ended the game with 23) and almost refused to miss in the second quarter.
Svi Mykhailiuk was remarkable tonight as well, and the confidence in his jump shot that we’ve seen lately finally blossomed into a formidable product. He knocked down 5 three-pointers tonight on his way to scoring 21 points, and even dished out 5 assists.
