5 trades for Detroit Pistons point guard Derrick Rose
5. DisneyRose
Markelle Fultz has had quite the resurrection in Orlando and it’s given them depth at point guard. Adding Rose would pack an extra punch as an improvement over D.J. Augustin.
Orlando is turning it over at a league-best 12.9 times per game but they’re 24th in assists. Only dishing out 22.5 assists per game, that’s where Rose could provide a spark with his career-best 41.8% assist rate this season.
A simple Rose-for-Augustin swap may not be enough to move the Pistons towards a trade, especially with Augustin expiring at season’s end and Detroit seeing Rose as a valuable part of a re-tool next season.
With Orlando adding a first round pick in 2020, it’s likely out of the lottery. The Magic are in a battle for the seventh or eighth seed, sitting 6 1/2 games behind Philadelphia for the sixth spot. But adding Rose would give them an improvement heading into the playoffs and a year to bolster the Magic’s chances for a better run in 2021.

An overview
Detroit wants to re-tool this summer for another run at the playoffs in 2021 behind a hopefully healthy Blake Griffin. Keeping Rose may be best but given his injury history may also be a gamble. It’s a difficult situation for the Pistons to determine what would be best to do.
But given that Rose has that injury history, perhaps Detroit should look to move him while he’s having his best season since he tore his ACL. His value hasn’t been this high and likely may never be higher. He could fetch a legitimate asset that could still give Detroit trade leverage or another player to help them re-tool next season.
For the Pistons, it’s a tough decision. What do Pistons fans want? Surely they want to see Rose with the Pistons but would one of these offers be enough to move Rose?
