3 takeaways from the Detroit Pistons 136-103 win over the Atlanta Hawks
The All-Star hopeful continues his excellence
Where in the world would the Pistons be without Derrick Rose? His brilliance this season cannot be overstated, and he has a significant case to make the All-Star team this year.
Due to his ability to effectively attack the basket tonight, it almost felt like he was garnering more attention around the rim than anyone else was for Detroit – most notably Andre Drummond. The damage he was dealing caused the Hawks to send multiple bodies at Rose every time he touched the ball.
Because of this, it allowed Rose to either A.) finish through the tough contact which, he did. B.) dump it off to Drummond or Wood in the low post or coming off of a roll which, he did. Or C.) defer to a shooter along the perimeter whose defender had sagged away from the three-point line in order to help defend Rose which again, he did.
He finished with 27 points on 70 percent shooting, while also dishing out 9 assists and only committing one turnover. It was Rose’s second consecutive start for the Pistons.
Over the course of the last two games, there has not been a single defender that has been able to stop Rose. He’s been able to score at will and capitalize off of any look that he gives himself inside of the three-point line.
Against Boston he didn’t miss a single two-point attempt, tonight he missed three. More often than not it seems like when he does attempt a three-pointer it almost seems like he’s settling for the shot, rather than putting the ball on the floor and doing what he does best.
Regardless, tonight was yet another remarkable performance from the former MVP.
