Mid-Season MVP: Derrick Rose

Derrick Rose has been a lot of fun to watch on the court this season. Like, a tremendous amount of fun. And he’s played in most of the season. He’s averaging 18 points per game in just 25 minutes per game.

His shooting splits of .496/.318/.879 indicates that, while his three-point shot isn’t the 37 percent it was last season, his two-point game has been fantastic.

In fact, he’s shooting 54 percent from two-point, which is fourth-best for all point guards. Well actually, the only point guards ahead of him, at least according to Basketball-Reference, are Ben Simmons, LeBron James, and Doncic, so he’s in good company.

Rose has been the Pistons Most Valuable Player so far this season. With Blake Griffin never being completely healthy and ultimately getting shut down for the season, Rose has stepped up as the playmaker.

Alongside Andre Drummond and Luke Kennard, Rose has been an important part of the team’s success, all while playing with some restrictions to avoid any significant injury. The team is 2-4 in the games that he’s missed this season.

While playing in 36 games this season, Rose has only started in two games, taking the role of coming off the bench and executing it to the best of his ability. So much so, that he’s breaking records. His seven straight games of 20+ points off the bench is a Pistons record.

Rose might be able to add to his 2011 NBA MVP Awards with a Sixth Man of the Year award as he’s fourth in bench scoring and third in assists. Like recent years, the award is Lou Williams‘s to lose, but if Rose can lead the way to the postseason, he might have a shot. He’s had a nice comeback story so far this season.

End of Season MVP Prediction: Derrick Rose.
