3 reasons to keep watching the 2020 Detroit Pistons
3. Derrick Rose’s Resurgence
Rose has always been a fascinating player. His style of play is aggressive yet full of finesse, violent yet precise. It stands in contrast with the personality we see on TV, quiet and reserved, almost like a samurai warrior pulled from an Akira Kurosawa film. So, it’s no surprise that Rose fans are taking advantage of the chance to vote him back into the All-Star Game.

The last time he was an All-Star was 2012 but he’s threatening to return this year despite being on a minute restriction. (Whether he deserves to make it or not is a whole other article, I’ll just say the Eastern Conference Guard spot is stacked.) It seems possible that the Pistons are testing the limits of said restriction, as Rose finished with a season-high 36 minutes on Jan. 13 and started the very next two games after starting one prior.
And you can’t blame the Pistons for pushing the limits, Rose has been electrifying. He’s still able to take over games and has been the Pistons lead creator in crunch time. Currently, Rose ranks 14th in Clutch Time points per game despite Piston’s opponent’s knowing exactly who is getting the ball.
The comparisons have been made to Rose pre-ACL tear and Per 100 Possessions, Rose is putting up incredibly similar numbers to his MVP campaign.

It’s a beautiful thing to see, Rose’s return to All-Star status would make this old commercial even more poignant. After a decade without any All-Star caliber guards, Rose is giving Pistons fans a reason to watch. So, let’s celebrate his tenacity and his will to return to the sun.
Despite their win-loss record, this may be the most fun it’s been to be a Pistons fan since Griffin was playing at an All-NBA level. And despite the Pistons’ owner Tom Gores alluding to rebuilding earlier this month, they may be too deep and too talented to really bottom out. As shown by their blow-out wins over the Boston Celtics and Atlanta Hawks. I’m not really sure where this team is headed in the next few years, but for this season, I’ll enjoy the ride.
