Detroit Pistons 2020 Draft profile: Kentucky’s Tyrese Maxey
Maxey’s fit with Pistons
Maxey is an interesting prospect as he could go anywhere from picks 4-10. Teams that would pass on Maxey would be the Hawks, Warriors, Cavaliers, Wizards. The Timberwolves, Pistons, Bulls, Knicks, Hornets, Suns are all in need of a player like Maxey.
Kentucky has an incredible track record of pro prospects with P.J. Washington and Tyler Herro adding to the many Wildcats in the NBA this season, and Maxey looks to be the next Kentucky player in the league. Maxey would make a very interesting backcourt combo with Luke Kennard, Bruce Brown, and potentially Reggie Jackson.

As I said earlier, the pick-and-roll prospect of Maxey and Wood or Drummond would be a great thing to watch. If Blake Griffin comes back to his form, his isolation style means that the other four players on the floor have to be able to catch and shoot a three late in the shot clock.
Jackson has the ability to be a point guard who can share the backcourt with another guard allowing him and Maxey to be able to share the floor. My favorite potential backcourt pairing is with Bruce Brown. Brown’s lack of shooting will be cancelled out by Maxey’s shooting and Bruce’s defense can complement Maxey’s hustle.
Pistons will be looking to draft a guard in this draft and before last year I’d say that Maxey would pretty much be a lock to be a Piston but due to the success of the Frenchman Sekou Doumbouya, the Pistons could look to take Theo Maledon or Killian Hayes. The other top option outside of obviously LaMelo Ball is Iowa State’s Tyrese Haliburton.
Hayes and Haliburton have been profiled already on PistonPowered, check them out!
