Reggie Jackson’s return is creating a buzz for Detroit Pistons fans with the budding question of whether he should re-sign. Here’s the case for either.

Reggie Jackson’s productive return to the Detroit Pistons’ lineup has some wondering if Detroit should take a risk and re-sign the veteran point guard in the offseason.

Jackson’s season has been one of frustration and waiting, as injury forced a lengthy rehab and 42 missed games. Jackson likely won’t have enough time to build his value before the trade deadline, which means the Pistons risk letting him walk for nothing when his contract is up at the end of the season. Many fans would prefer to just let Jackson go and start a new era without him, while others see potential value in buying low on Jackson on a short-term deal.

Few players draw more of the fan’s ire than Jackson, as his seemingly never-ending stream of injuries has caused him to miss significant time in his career as a Piston. But the Pistons have been a better team when Jackson plays and he has occasionally teased fans with flashes of great individual play, as well as burgeoning chemistry with Andre Drummond.

It has been frustrating to say the least, which is why it is understandable if the Pistons let Jackson walk and use his cap money on someone else. But what if Jackson could be had on an extremely team-friendly deal? Jackson would get a chance to build his future value and the Pistons could try to reap some return on their investment.

Let’s take a look at some of the reasons the Pistons should try to sign the controversial point guard, as well as a few reasons they should move on from the Jackson era in Detroit.
