3 takeaways from the Detroit Pistons 121-111 loss to the Brooklyn Nets
The Detroit Pistons continue to watch their season slip away following a 121-111 overtime loss to the Brooklyn Nets.
Regardless of the outcome for the Detroit Pistons, the factors always seem to be the same. However, whether it’s a win or loss there’s always one thing that remains the same for this team, and that’s the consistent heroics of Derrick Rose.
Despite the ongoing trade rumors surrounding him, he’s putting the Pistons on his back night after night and it’s warranted some conversation for an All-Star consideration. Tonight was no exception, as he was absolutely tremendous.
With 10.4 seconds left in regulation, the Pistons trailed by 2 points and Kyrie Irving attempted a three-pointer, which would have sealed the game. The issue was that he attempted the shot with 5 seconds remaining on the shot clock. Had he waited just a few more seconds, missing the shot likely wouldn’t have made any difference.
It wasn’t a bad look either. It was his coveted side-step going to his right, and he had plenty of space, but he missed. This resulted in a frenzy for possession, and in an attempt to save the ball from going out of bounds Spencer Dinwiddie attempted to throw the ball back in play.
Rose intercepted the pass, and went coast to coast securing the game-tying layup with just under 2 seconds to play in the game.
In what feels like every single game, Rose creates a new way to score. Whether that’s somehow weaving his way through multiple defenders while attacking the paint, or finishing through contact with multiple bodies on him, he comes through for Detroit every night.
He’s now scored 20+ points in twelve consecutive games.
