Although the Detroit Pistons dynasty was fading from the rear-view mirror, a core of the 2004 NBA Finals squad remained on the Pistons’ starting lineup. Ben Wallace was back from Chicago, and was rejoined with Tayshaun Prince and Richard Hamilton. Still, the then defending-champion Los Angeles Lakers posed too big of a challenge for the home team Pistons who were in the midst of an identity crisis.

Kobe would go on to score a game-high 33 points in a 103-90 win for the Lakers, but his offensive production was met by Pau Gasol‘s 25 points and Lamar Odom‘s 13 points.

With help on the offensive end, this game becomes another of Kobe’s casual 30-point performances. Kobe’s point total came on 11-of-20 shooting, 3-for-6 from deep, but, aside from nine rebounds, Kobe’s stats are pretty unremarkable.

However, it would be Kobe’s last great and classic-Kobe performance against the Pistons. Kobe would only play in four more games against the Pistons before his 2015 rotator cuff surgery, and he would only play in six more games against the Pistons before retiring in following the 2015-16 season.
