With a lottery selection likely on the horizon for the Detroit Pistons, they may have an opportunity to draft one of the best guards in the draft.

Within the last week and a half, the Detroit Pistons saw their season slip away. With the trade deadline passing and uncertainty looming over the organization’s future, they desperately need to hit the restart button.

Injuries have plagued this Pistons team since the start of the season, and even before then they were already banged up during the preseason. Everything went off the rails a lot sooner and and more abruptly than what was anticipated.

Because of this, Detroit has been forced to play a lot of unorthodox rotations which has caused to a lot of frustrating stretches. The Pistons just snapped a 30-game streak of allowing their opponents to score 100+ points. It’s been a long ride.

With the way the NBA Draft Lottery is currently structured, the Pistons don’t have to be historically bad in order to obtain a quality draft selection. The New Orleans Pelicans won 33 games in 2018-2019 and wound up with the number one overall pick.

This puts the Pistons in a good position, as they’re competitive enough that they’re still a formidable product, yet they lack any firepower that would push them into the playoff picture.

According to tankathon.com, as of today the Pistons have a 26.3 percent chance to land a top four pick, and a 6.0 percent chance at landing the number one overall pick. Detroit currently has the eighth best odds at landing the top pick. So now the question becomes; who do they draft?

The answer could be Theo Maledon, the 18-year old point guard from France.
