#14 Villanova at #8 Seton Hall (Wednesday)

For the first game of Wednesday we go to the Big East for a game with massive implications for the Big East tournament and the NCAA Tournament.

The #8 Pirates of Seton Hall sit atop the Big East standings with a two-game lead over #11 Creighton and #14 Villanova, Seton Hall’s next two opponents. A win on Wednesday will clinch the regular season Big East title for the Pirates so there’s added importance to this game.

In terms of prospects, there aren’t any lottery players in this game but there are some formidable products. Seton Hall is carried by senior guard Myles Powell. His leadership is felt on the court as he’s the Pirates’ floor general.

Outside of his leadership qualities, his 21.3 points per game also are a huge help for Seton Hall. Seton Hall were a preseason dark horse to potentially make a run. Powell seems to fit the mold of the typical player to carry his team deep into March and get a late first round selection as compensation.

Myles’ three-point shot hasn’t been hitting recently, and his attempts have gone increased, something he will need to fix going into the homestretch of this season.

Villanova is coming off a shock loss against Providence at home, virtually ending their hopes of winning the regular season title outright but with some help from Creighton, they could get a piece of it, but they have to beat Seton Hall first. Villanova’s lone NBA prospect is Saddiq Bey who has become the new stud for Villanova.

Villanova is starting to become a factory for more experienced NBA players who are selected late in the first round or the second round. Eric Paschall and his stellar rookie season is the most recent example. Bey is currently mocked to the Raptors at pick 28.

While the Pistons don’t have a second-round pick or late first like so many fans expected them to have after the deadline, as we all remember Ed Stefanski was able to flip Jon Leuer for Tony Snell and the 30th pick so nothing’s impossible.

Saddiq has turned into an offensive weapon averaging 15.9 points, with an efficient 47.2 percent shooting.

Although only a sophomore I see him entering the draft this year. Another player to watch for is Collin Gillespie who has been getting Ryan Arcidiacono and Donte DiVincenzo comparisons as of late due to his toughness and grit as a smaller point guard.
