#3 Dayton at Rhode Island (Wednesday)

The second game features one of the most exciting players to watch this season, Dayton’s Obi Toppin. Another game where the main reason is one player, Dayton will travel to one of the better teams in the A10 conference, the Rhode Island Rams.

Dayton is currently is a freight train, Toppin and the Flyers are flying high currently being the #3 ranked team. I understand their conference isn’t great, but a 27-2 record is nothing to scoff at.

Dayton’s two losses were both in overtime at Colorado who’s first in the PAC 12 and at #4 Kansas who never loses at home.

Dayton shoots efficiently, they can win a game in the mid-fifties or in the high seventies as their defense and offence are both elite.

As for Toppin is concerned, he’s all but a lock for the Wooden Award.

The Wooden Award is the award given to the nation’s best college basketball player. Obi Toppin is currently boasting an absolutely insane stat line of 19.8 points, 7.8 rebounds, 2.1 assists, and a red hot 63.2 percent from the field.

Toppin hasn’t scored under 12 points this decade and only hasn’t scored in double figures once this season. He’s not just an inside scorer as he’s averaging 38.7 percent shooting from three-point range.

Toppin checks literally every box for what you want to see in a prospect other than his age, something he obviously can’t change. At 22 years old, he’s considered old due to all of the one and done players that now dominate the lottery of the draft.

For the Rams of Rhode Island, Fatts Russell is the best player. Russell is scoring 19.5 points a game, along with 3.4 rebounds and 4.6 assists. T

he Rams have lost three of their last five games and they are currently in the “next four out” of the tournament so a win against Dayton would do so much for their tournament chances. Although they really do need this win, I expect Obi Toppin to score 20 and dominate the Rams once more as the Flyers might not lose a game the rest of this season.
