In all likelihood the Detroit Pistons will select a point guard in the upcoming draft. Could Tre Jones be the one they pick?
The Detroit Pistons season very well could be over. On March 11th, ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski dropped on the biggest Woj-bomb of all time when he reported that the NBA announced that they have suspended all NBA games.
During this time, the NBA “will use hiatus to determine next steps moving forward”. With the Pistons most recent loss to the Philadelphia 76ers possibly being the end of the road for the 2019-2020 season, the long and brutal season may have finally come to an end.
After entering the season with high hopes and playoff aspirations for Blake Griffin, Andre Drummond, and company.
Their playoff hopes flew out the window as Griffin went down early with a season-ending injury, Andre Drummond was traded away, and both Reggie Jackson and Markieff Morris were bought out.
After fully embracing the rebuild, the Pistons are now led by Christian Wood, currently-injured Luke Kennard, and a group of young players.
Sitting at 20-46, the Pistons have the 5th best odds at the first pick in the NBA draft, holding a 10.5% chance.
While there are many intriguing prospects like Anthony Edwards, Deni Avdija, and James Wiseman, the second round can be a place where the Pistons can find a diamond in the rough. (If they’re able to acquire a second round pick, which they currently do not posses.)
Khris Middleton, Draymond Green, and Malcolm Brogdon are just some of the recent second-rounders who have made a major impact on their teams.
Hopefully, the Pistons have learned from their past mistakes of drafting someone in the second round then trading them away (Middleton and Spencer Dinwiddie) and will search for someone who can be a key player in the Pistons future.
Duke Sophomore point guard Tre Jones could be a player who can turn out to be an absolute steal come draft day. After opting to stay at Duke one more year, the 2020 ACC player of the year finally had more space to showcase his abilities after sharing the court with Zion Williamson, RJ Barrett, and Cam Reddish last season.
