Sekou’s future with the Pistons
At the time that Detroit selected him in the 2019 Draft, fans weren’t as divisive as they’d have been in years prior after picking a European prospect. Basketball fans in general have grown to be less worrisome over this idea.
The reason is because they saw his potential. He was compared to Pascal Siakam and a watered down version of Giannis Antetokounmpo.

What he could blossom into with the Pistons remains to be seen, but he could become special really fast. Sekou is someone who can use his length to impose his will on defenders if he’s put in the right situation.
Referencing back to his mechanics, his high-arcing shot along the perimeter is difficult to defend and if he’s able to hit his three-pointers with more consistency, his scoring would become lethal.
Improving his ball handling on his way to the basket and becoming more consistent with drawing contact at the rim would turn him into a offensive force that would be nearly impossible to slow down.
It’s ambitious to say that a 19 year old could be Detroit’s next All-Star, but if everything goes according to plan, it could be true.
At the end of the day it’s difficult to put a limit on what he could become considering we never really got a chance to see what he can do when given a total green light. Obviously that’s something he has to earn, but he dominated in Grand Rapids. We saw what he can do.
At the very least he could become a top three scoring option for the Pistons within the next few years. At the most, in the short term, he could be an early candidate for the Most Improved Player away for 2021.
