Detroit Pistons: 2020 NBA first round mock draft 1.0
The Washington Wizards were without John Wall for the entirety of the 2019-2020 season after he suffered a ruptured achilles. Moving forward, they’ll want to form a contingency plan at the point guard position in case something were to happen again.
As it stands, they have Shabazz Napier, Ish Smith, and Gary Payton II filling in for Wall.
Drafting Cole Anthony could be a step in the right direction for a team who has found themselves in purgatory for the last several years.
Adding a young and explosive point guard into the mix that can learn from Wall, one of the league’s best point guards when healthy, could benefit the Wizards down the line.
Anthony’s ability to finish at the rim is better than what we saw from him at North Carolina this season, as it’s one of the qualities he possesses that got him on the map as a recruit.
In terms of passing vision, he’s not on the same level as some other guards in this class where he’s able to make a decision with the ball seconds before it even becomes available to him. He’s not quite there yet.
He’s able to make sharp and precise passes when the opportunity does arrive though.
Sometimes it feels as if he’s a shooting guard disguised as a point guard, considering he often seems to prioritize shooting over facilitating.
One major concern with shaping your future around him could be the fact that he suffered a meniscus tear back in December.
