3 players the Detroit Pistons should have drafted in 2016
Malcolm Brogdon
In retrospect t’s genuinely shocking that Malcolm Brogdon fell all the way down to the second round at 38th overall.
Though he was traded to the Indiana Pacers and subsequently extended last summer, he was outstanding for the Bucks and saw that success carry over with his new team.
He won the Rookie of the Year award in 2017 after scoring 10.2 points per game on 45.7 percent shooting for Milwaukee, and quickly became one of the top scoring options for a team who was emerging as a future title contender.
Brogdon became the first player who wasn’t drafted in the first round to win the award since 1966.
He was the first rookie in Bucks history to record a triple double, when he posted 15 points, 12 assists and 10 rebounds against the Chicago Bulls. He also led all rookies in assists during the playoffs at 3.5 per game.
In a way, Brogdon is the jack-of-all trades type of player that the Pistons would eventually find in Bruce Brown but on a different efficiency level with higher shooting volume.
The fact that he slipped all the way down to the second round is still baffling.
After being traded to the Pacers last summer, he quickly formed one of the most lethal pick and roll combinations in all of basketball next to Domantas Sabonis. It’s one of the most surefire ways to guarantee a basket.
The Pistons missed out in 2016, and had they selected any one of these listed players, they’re franchise would look a whole lot different.
