How Svi Mykhailiuk can improve next season
Svi’s future with the Pistons
As it stands today, the Pistons are steady at the wing position. On contract for next season are Bruce Brown, Luke Kennard, Khyri Thomas and (most likely) Tony Snell.
It’s tough to say now if any of those players will see a big jump in their role from last year. The draft and free agency could add more to the roster after the likely departure of Langston Galloway.
Mykhailiuk will most likely start next year from the bench but as we saw last year, injuries can change roles quick. One of the best parts about his season was his ability to quickly adopt the elevated role he was forced into.
While he earned a starting role on a depleted team, it’s unclear if Mykhailiuk is in the long term plans for Detroit.
The Pistons will likely pick up the team option for next season, but we’ll see if he’s worth another contract as a restricted free agent in the summer of 2021.
There will be plenty of roster decisions to be made over the next few seasons and next year will certainly be an audition for some to prove if they are in the teams plans to build a contender.
Mykhailiuk should get an opportunity next year to show he’s more than a spot up shooter, but it will ultimately be up to him to prove it.
