5 Things Pistons Fans Learned During the 2019-20 NBA Season (so far)
Ed Stefanksi has the power
While I understand that many of the Pistons’ faithful were disgusted by the return from trading away Andre Drummond, but there were some positives, but there was one huge win that you probably didn’t realize.
As funny are the jokes on 97.1 The Ticket’s Valenti Show about Tom Gores being best friends Drummond, they are scarily accurate it would seem.
Gores has had a strong hand in the front office for some time now not only with the Griffin trade but with his “best friend” Drummond staying in Detroit.
Stan Van Gundy said that there was a deal in place for him to go to the Sacramento Kings yet the plug on the deal was pulled at the last second. While he never said why that deal was pulled you couldn’t convince me it wasn’t Gores that kept Drummond in Detroit.
As I’m sure you can all see where I’m going at this point, trading him away signals to me that at Ed Stefanski is at least in partial control of the front office, but I think he’s in complete control.

That trade made us Pistons fans learn that Stefanski is in control, and I don’t know about you, but I trust in Ed. In Stefanski’s tenure that began in 2018, he’s drafted Khyri Thomas, Bruce Brown, Sekou, Deividas Sirvydis, and Jordan Bone.
Bruce and Sekou look to be good picks with Thomas and Bone seeming like G-League players and the jury’s still out on Sirvydis. Another shrewd move by Ed was flipping Reggie Bullock’s expiring deal for Svi Mykhailiuk and a 2021 second rounder.
I know a lot of you might think that this isn’t the greatest list of accomplishments but with a town that’s dealing with Bob Quinn, Al Avila, and just had to deal with SVG and Ken Holland, stringing together two drafts consecutively and not making any bad trades or signings, you’re immediately considered a good GM.
While this might have not been the best season on paper, and the potential cancellation of the remaining games, the Pistons actually lose out on some losses to help the tank but getting through this virus is obviously much more important.
There wasn’t a lot to get happy about, but these were five things that we learned from this 2019-20 Pistons season, so far?
