PG . Detroit Pistons. Killian Hayes . 3. player. 64.

We’ve officially arrived at our first major gamble in the draft. If the Pistons are set on drafting a point guard, they’re going to be taking a massive risk regardless. There are so many to choose from and only so many will pan out.

Unless they plan on converting Bruce Brown to point guard full time, Derrick Rose will be their only (legitimate) current option going into next season. They currently only have one pick in this year’s draft, and it would be best spent on a point guard.

They’ve spent so many years investing in other positions, but it’s time to address the main concern.

Hayes is generally projected to go somewhere in the middle of the lottery, but he’s slowly become one of the more complete point guards in the entire draft.

He’s got a little bit off everything. His shooting is solid, he can attack the basket (though he struggles to get through contact), but most importantly, he is an unbelievably gifted passer.

Detroit needs more playmaking, and that’s what Hayes brings to the table. He has a remarkable feel for the game and sees the floor incredibly well. He’s able to locate shooters so easily.

Though he tends to gamble a bit too much defensively, he’s still aggressive and the Pistons needs all the defensive help that they can get with their guards. He’s able to jump passing lanes and generate steals with relative ease.

Drafting Obi Toppin may sound like the smart move here, but ultimately he’d spend a majority of the season behind Blake Griffin.

Hayes is a risky pick at number three overall, but the upside that he shows could turn him into a legitimate asset for Detroit. In the weirdest way, he’d be the safest pick here.
