#2 50 points against Philadelphia

With a full off season under his belt to train with his new team, the expectations for Griffin to open the 2018-2019 season weren’t through the roof, but they were high. The Pistons won their first two games to open the season, with the Sixers on deck.

Naturally when playing a buzz saw like Philadelphia, as a Pistons fan you tend to think “alright well, on to the next one I guess.” But an interesting development arose; Ben Simmons was out with an injury. Detroit’s time to strike was now.

Sure enough, as the game began the quality play that we had seen from Griffin in his previous two outings was there. His athleticism was peak, his facilitating was improving, and he threw down the one of the more thunderous dunks of the season as well.

His soft touch at the rim was about as good as it could have ever been, and his go-to spin move was on full display in the post. He exploded for 18 points in the second quarter alone.

There wasn’t a single defender who could guard him that night. Try as the Sixers like, but Amir Johnson, Mike Muscala, and Dario Saric weren’t going to cut it.

Also. The pressure is off Dwane Casey to win, and that's a good thing. light

Griffin was on a mission, and it was to destroy his opponent.

He spent a majority of the game around the rim, however he did knock down 5 of his 10 attempted three-pointers.

It was a back and forth contest throughout the entire game, and Blake’s heroics kept Detroit in contention. The game went into overtime, and it was officially time to end the Sixers.

With 5.4 seconds remaining, Reggie Bullock in-bounded the ball to Blake on the wing. He proceeds to preform a ball fake that two defenders bit on, Griffin drives to the basket, absorbs the contact, and gets the basket and a foul.

1.8 seconds remaining with the Pistons now tied, Griffin sinks the free throw, giving him 50 points and Detroit the eventual win.
