#1 The Milwaukee series

As Detroit headed into the playoffs against the Milwaukee Bucks, they were without their leader. Blake Griffin was dealing with a knee injury that had temporarily sidelined him.

The odds were incredibly slim that the Pistons would be able to pull off even a single win in the series, but to not have Griffin on the floor would just prove to be embarrassing. For the first two games without him, it was.

When the series went back to Detroit for games three and four, Griffin returned donning an unfathomably large knee brace.

More from PistonPowered

It doesn’t matter that the Pistons got swept. It doesn’t matter that they hardly even came close to winning in either of the two games that he played. The “Detroit mentality” that so many basketball fans hold on to pseudo or not, that is what he displayed in those games.

He was willing to put his body on the line to win for this team. He wanted to go out there and go to war with his teammates, and that’s what he did despite the injury.

It was clear that Griffin was struggling with mobility, but the effort and the scoring punch was just as present as it needed to be. Scoring 27 points on 41.7 percent shooting in game three and 22 points on 53.3 percent in game four, he left it all on the floor.

He exited game four after fouling out and was met with a standing ovation. He spent the better part of 82 games willing this team to the playoffs largely on his own. The fact that he went out there for his team, for the fans, and for the city meant everything to us.

In one of the better displays of grit and determination that we’ve seen from a Piston in recent memory, it was a moment that fans won’t forget, despite the outcome.
