Christian Wood

Wood already had himself a breakout season this year with the Pistons. If he’s to take his game to another level next year, he’ll need to be re-signed.

Going from the G-League, to being cut by numerous teams, to now being the certified cornerstone piece for the Pistons alongside Doumbouya. Simply put, Wood had himself one monster of a season.

In 62 games, Wood averaged 13.1 points and 6.3 rebounds. Once Drummond got traded those numbers jumped to 21.9 points and 9.4 assists. This seems like just the beginning for Wood who should be hungrier than ever to prove that his success this season was not a fluke accident.

If Wood wants to put the NBA on notice the first thing he needs to do is hit the weight room and fill out his frame. At 6’10 214 pounds Wood is rather lanky. If he added some muscle he could really throw his weight around even more than he already does to get even more posterizing dunks.

The next thing he can do is improve his defense. Filling out his frame will go along way towards helping in this area. Lastly, Wood will want to continue working on his jumper to maintain or improve his shooting percentages.

Asking for a big man to improve upon a year where he shot 38.6 percent from three is asking for a lot as most big men dream of shooting that well from deep. However, if he can maintain that level of consistency for the long term it would do insane amounts of good for the Pistons offense.

Wood has immense amounts of potential and immense amounts of drive to prove the people that doubted him wrong. The Pistons should do everything in their power to lock him up for the future or else they will regret it.
