The Detroit Pistons have officially hired Troy Weaver as their new General Manager, securing their top choice.

Adrian Wojnarowski reported this morning that the Detroit Pistons have officially brought on Troy Weaver to become their next General Manager. The search for the position lasted just a few weeks, and they were able to lock in their first option. the contract will be for four years.

In a statement released by the Pistons following his signing, Weaver said the following:

"‘I’m excited for the challenge of building this team into a consistent winner and assembling the pieces to compete at a very high level.”"

Weaver had previously worked with the Oklahoma City Thunder for the past 12 years, and was instrumental in the drafting of players like Russell Westbrook, James Harden, and Serge Ibaka. His staple has become his player evaluation.

The Pistons are hoping that he can continue that trend here. With one of their most important drafts in recent memory on the horizon, the hope is that Weaver can help land Detroit’s star of the future.

This isn’t the first time that an NBA team has pursued the services of Weaver, having actually turned down the same position from the Pistons just two years ago.

Now, he’ll work alongside Ed Stefanski (who will remain the Senior Adviser) as they continue the search for an Assistant GM.

In another statement released by the Detroit Pistons via Twitter, Owner Tom Gores said the following about Weaver:

"“Troy is an outstanding executive with an exceptional track record for identifying and developing talent. In talking with Troy, he’s got both the skill and temperament to lead, and the confidence and creativity to work collaboratively with others.”"

With the Pistons’ rebuild in effect, having quality developmental personnel in place will be paramount to the efficiency with which the team is able to navigate this obstacle.

Weaver brings that to the table, and fans are excited to see what comes next.
