The Physical Attributes

The first reason to consider James Wiseman is what he’s physically capable of on the court. Standing at upwards of 7’0″ with a 250-pound frame and a 7’5″ wingspan, Wiseman is able to make an impact on the game through his physical presence alone.

With long arms and the ability to move interior players around down low, Wiseman should bottom out as a productive rebounder on both ends of the floor.

The difference between Wiseman and Andre Drummond is that the former is already regarded as a player with the tools to dominate defensively. The sample size is minimal at the collegiate level, but film from every platform shows how he’s able to disrupt shooting motions and even redirect shots.

Having a legitimate rim protector is still of immense value in the modern NBA, especially when they move with the fluidity that Wiseman seems to.

In addition to being tall, strong, and long, Wiseman also has the agility to move around the floor defensively. This isn’t to say that he’ll be a Rudy Gobert level defender, but he has all of the tools to be a true anchor in that area of the game.

If the Detroit Pistons are able to polish Wiseman’s footwork, the impact of his physical attributes could be maximized and he could be a force in multiple facets of the gameplan.
