Detroit Pistons: How some former players have fared in the bubble

Without question one of the more divisive players in recent memory for the Pistons was Reggie Jackson. When he was bought out by Detroit and subsequently signed by the Clippers, there was a range of emotion.

Some of us where sad to see him go in the sense that he never really got a fair shake with the Pistons. He was too frequently injured and that forced a lot of people to jump ship. However with his new team, he proved a lot of people’s theories to be true: He was never a starting point guard.

While he did start a handful of games for the Clippers, he’s primarily been utilized off the bench. In classic Jackson fashion, there have been a few times where he still tends to throw possessions away by playing iso-ball.

In game two against the Mavericks here in the playoffs, he drove down the lane and took his coveted floater with four defenders on him.

However, outside of that he played pretty well to finish the season. His consistency on both ends of the floor still comes and goes, but he was able to fill whatever role the Clippers needed on any given night, whether it was that of a scorer or a facilitator.

As soon as the playoffs began his production began to slip. Through the first three games he was only averaging 5.7 points in 20 minutes played per game. Normally this is contextual, as the Clippers have far more scoring options than Detroit ever has.

But then you also notice that he’s only averaged 0.7 assists per game and you know something’s up. There are too many options to be this inefficient with your facilitating.

In their most recent outing, Jackson (who admittedly played the best possible defense that he could) fell victim to a Luka Doncic stepback three-pointer at the buzzer, and will forever be part of one of the most iconic shots in Luka’s career.
