The Detroit Pistons select Killian Hayes in the 2020 NBA Draft
The Detroit Pistons select Killian Hayes in the 2020 NBA Draft.
The Detroit Pistons have done it. They drafted the player that the fan base has been clamoring over for months now. With the seventh pick in the NBA Draft, they selected Killian Hayes.
It had been largely speculated that Detroit would selected either Florida State’s Patrick Williams or Iowa State’s Tyrese Haliburton. After Williams went fourth to the Chicago Bulls, it came down to Haliburton or Hayes.
Either would have been a perfectly acceptable pick, but fans have been begging for Hayes ever since the lottery concluded back in August. Hayes is highly touted for his elite court vision and his play making ability.
The Pistons were in desperate need of a point guard, and by the approximation of some, they got the best on in the entire draft.
It’s also worth noting that Hayes is close friends with Sekou Doumbouya, Detroit’s draft pick just a season ago. The two had been communicating over the last few months trying to get Hayes prepared for the NBA.
The duo has been appropriately anointed “The French Revolution”, and it has officially arrived.
Hayes is a gifted offensive talent. He’s also a pesky defender and his sheer quickness allows him to jump passing lanes with tremendous ease.
As the Pistons hope to begin their rebuild, Hayes is an exceptional first building block. An essential piece of the puzzle has officially been placed.
While we were initially expecting this to be Detroit’s only pick of the night, they’ve also acquired the 16th pick in the draft after completing a trade with the Houston Rockets just before the draft was underway.
Troy Weaver has made his first selection as the Pistons General Manager, and it was an absolute home run.
