The Detroit Pistons select Isaiah Stewart in the 2020 NBA Draft.

After acquiring an additional first round pick in this year’s draft via Houston, the Detroit Pistons use the 16th pick to select Isaiah Stewart. The center out of Washington could prove to be a strong addition to a depleted Pistons front court.

As it stands, Detroit will be going into next season with Christian Wood, Thon Maker (if both are retained) and Justin Patton up front. This move bolsters their depth.

Stewart was widely considered the third best big man in this class, trailing only James Wiseman and Onyeka Okongwu, both of whom were selected inside of the top ten.

Stewart is highly touted for his ability to bully defenders in isolation around the rim. His incredibly efficient post play will be a solid plus to a Pistons team who desperately needed to add size.

Additionally, Stewart is a strong pick and roll option. Paired alongside either Derrick Rose or newly drafted Killian Hayes, Detroit will have some fun scoring options to explore.

His ability to create and finish through contact at the rim is incredibly refreshing to see, as he’s able to keep his body under control when finishing.

Stewart was the PAC-12’s leading freshman scorer and rebounder at 17.0 points and 8.8 rebounds per game. Playing in one of college basketball’s more competitive conferences, the experience could bode well at the next level.

He also set school records at Washington, becoming the new leading (freshman) rebounder in school history with 281, and shot blocker with 66.
