Detroit Pistons: Predicting the 5 most Impactful players
4. Mason Plumlee
Mason Plumlee starts at an immediate disadvantage with Detroit Pistons fans, given the bag of money we’ve thrown at him, and letting Christian Wood walk for less.
While it’s unfortunate to see a high potential player like Wood walk after such a productive season, there will be advantages to having Plumlee.
The former Duke center represents a stable front court body that will be counted on to play his role, and not disrupt the flow of the offense.
Plumlee’s a great pick-and-roll player, producing 1.34 points per possession. That is top 10 amongst centers in the league. He’s also an intelligent playmaker at the 5 position – posting the third-highest assist percentage of any center last season.
Maybe Nikola Jokic’s powers rubbed off on him, or maybe he’s a smart player who just gets his role.
These qualities will help a young roster develop over the course of the next few seasons, which is the main reason I think Weaver made the move.
