The rebuild has arrived

Back in June, the Pistons began their search for a new General Manager, as Ed Stefanski had only been acting (technically) as the interim.

Eventually, Troy Weaver rose to the top of the list and was offered the job. In his introductory press conference, he referred to Detroit’s current plan moving forward as a “restoring“, not a rebuild.

The hiring was met with a general sense of optimism, as we had finally begun to grasp the aforementioned idea of an actual rebuild, with Weaver seeming to be a qualified candidate to navigate such a thing.

Technically, the Pistons had gotten the ball rolling on the idea just a few months prior, when they traded Andre Drummond away to the Cleveland Cavaliers at the February 6th trade deadline.

It was such a tremendous feeling to know that the team is finally headed in the right direction. Even if you haven’t agreed with all of the moves made along the way so far, as it’d be easy not to, the fact remains that this was a necessity.

Losing isn’t fun, no one will dispute that. But at some point you’d rather stop putting the few chips that you have in the middle and pray for a 41-41 season just to get swept in the first round of the playoffs. That doesn’t help your franchise.

A clear direction is all we could have asked for this year. It’s really the ultimate gift.
