Killian Hayes’ injury is much more serious than expected. Can the Detroit Pistons catch a break?

It was starting to look like things were finally turning around for the Detroit Pistons. They fell in the NBA Draft, but still got the guy they wanted in Killian Hayes, and though they aren’t winning, the signs were positive.

Emily Dickinson said “Hope is the thing with feathers,” and after hearing the news about Killian Hayes, the Pistons are without feathers.

After initially saying his injury was a “hip strain” and that Hayes was doubtful for tonight’s game, the medical staff did a 180 and admitted the truth.

I’m not sure why the early false information was ever released considering he had not even had an MRI yet, but I do not run Pistons’ PR.

Detroit Pistons: Killian Hayes injury will threaten his career

I hate to sound pessimistic but this was about the worst news the Detroit Pistons could have gotten about Killian Hayes.

A labral tear is a very serious injury that will very likely cost him all of this season and probably part of next.

So Killian Hayes is not only losing a year of potential development, but it is unclear if he will come back 100 percent when he does return.

This is the same injury that essentially ended Isaiah Thomas’ career (not our Thomas) as he was never the same after he came back.

Hayes is just 19-years-old, so hopefully, he will recover faster and more completely than some older players who suffered this injury, but there is no guarantee.

The Detroit Pistons are in the beginning stages of a rebuild after being mired in mediocrity for years and Hayes is meant to be a big part of it.

Early returns on Saddiq Bey and Isaiah Stewart had Pistons fans hopeful that this thing was finally going to turn around and to be built the right way.

But once again hope has been crushed before it even got a chance to develop. The Detroit Pistons can’t seem to get a break, so we can only hope Hayes can overcome this injury and return even stronger when he does.
