Detroit Pistons: Trading Derrick Rose to the Orlando Magic

The Magic probably didn’t expect to be 6-2 but here we are.

Losing Markelle Fultz was a big blow and the Magic may not have the depth to overcome it if they want to stay on this roll.

Rookie Cole Anthony stepped up when Fultz when down but they could still use a backup who can score.

Here’ s a trade that could get the Pistons an asset:

I can already hear Magic fans saying “We have Jordan Bone!  We don’t need Rose!” But if you think Bone is going to provide more consistent scoring off the bench, you are wrong.

The Magic would get a solid backup point guard in Rose, a guy who can carry the team offensively for short spurts.

The Pistons take back James Ennis III, who won’t take minutes from anyone and get a protected 1st-round pick for their troubles.

Are the Magic desperate enough to give up a 1st-rounder? Probably not but they would love to be competitive this season and Rose makes that more possible. The Pistons are in a position to start a bidding war for Rose, and if enough teams get involved, they might get their pick.

This trade would have to wait, as Ennis was recently acquired, but it gives you an idea of what the Pistons might be able to get.

It’s time for the Derrick Rose era in Detroit to be over so the Pistons should be weighing their trade options.
