Detroit Pistons: Sekou Doumbouya needs a bit more playing time

A little more Sekou Doumbouya

I wrote yesterday that this might be the week that Sekou Doumbouya gets some more minutes.

It should start tonight.

Not only did the second-year forward have one of his better games of the season against Milwaukee, but the Pistons also have three games left this week, including a back-to-back against the Wizards and Heat.

I am not of the group who thinks that Doumbouya should be playing big minutes if he has not earned them. This is not a training-wheel league, every guy in the NBA is good, so no one should be handed anything.

That being said, can the guy just get on the floor for a few more minutes a game?

Would it really hurt the Pistons to cut five minutes out of Blake Griffin’s 32 a game and give them to Sekou Doumbouya? Again, I am not advocating to bench Blake but Sekou is never going to be able to earn minutes if he doesn’t play.

I want Detroit to change its culture and it looks like that is happening, but that doesn’t mean Sekou has to be relegated to five minutes a game.

If he was even getting 10-12 minutes he might be able to get into some kind of rhythm and earn the minutes as Casey wants him to.
