Detroit Pistons: Saddiq Bey is in elite company from 3-point range
Saddiq Bey has been impressive in his first ten games for the Detroit Pistons.
The Detroit Pistons look like they got the steal of the draft in Saddiq Bey, who has been turning heads with his defense and elite shooting from long range.
Through his first ten games, the rookie is shooting 43.1 percent on 5.8 attempts per game, numbers that place him among the NBA’s best 3-point shooters.
To put that in perspective, Devin Booker is shooting six per game and hitting 34.8 percent. There are only eight players in the entire NBA who take at least 5.8 attempts per game and have a higher percentage than Saddiq Bey.
When it comes to rookies, Bey is tied for the most 3-point shots made with Tyrese Haliburton, who has started the season on fire and looks like a frontrunner for Rookie of the Year.
But it isn’t just this season, Saddiq Bey is in some historically good company when it comes to rookies in their first ten games.
Detroit Pistons: Saddiq Bey is nearing records for rookie 3-point shooting
Saddiq Bey has made 25 3-point shots through the first ten games of his career, which is tied for fourth all-time among rookies with Haliburton.
The interesting thing is that Bey is coming off the bench and only playing 23 minutes a night, while Haliburton is getting just over 28 minutes on average.
Haliburton has made a higher percentage but has taken fewer of them, and even though he has played more minutes, he only scores two points a game more than Bey.
When you add that Bey has played solid defense and he has a case to be in the Rookie of the Year conversation, especially if he continues to get more opportunity as the season goes on.
The season is still early and some of these numbers will eventually come back to earth, but if Saddiq Bey continues to shoot over 40 percent from long range while playing elite defense, the Detroit Pistons have found a cornerstone of their rebuild.
