Injury reports

The Houston Rockets will be very shorthanded as starters John Wall, Christian Wood and Danuel House Jr are all expected to miss this game. Reserves Dante Exum and Chris Clemons are also classified as out.

The Detroit Pistons come into the game pretty healthy. Obviously, Killian Hayes is out, as he will be for the next two months. Josh Jackson is probable with a left quad contusion.

What their mental state is, might be another story, as they suffered a total collapse in the fourth quarter against the Hawks on Wednesday.

Betting tips

Detroit Pistons. Being favored going into a game is … unique. They are 3-11 and have shown the ability to somehow outplay a team but still lose. The one thing bettors must realize about Detroit is that they never, ever get blown out. Of their 11 losses, 10 of them are by 10 points or less. If looking at the over/under, the Pistons are a funky team. They can score 39 points in a quarter followed by 14 points in the next period. The only sure thing about them is, Jerami Grant will score.

Houston Rockets: The Rockets are coming off a decent effort against Phoenix. But Christian Wood played in that one, they will not have him for this one, due to an ankle injury. Houston comes in really shorthanded, without five players, including 3 starters. You should ignore their season trends, as most came when James Harden was (unhappily) on the team. Houston does have some big scorers in Eric Gordon and Victor Oladipo, and the Pistons defense can be sieve-like, so the over might not be bad.

Best Bet (0-0): Detroit to outright win but do not lay any points.

Houston is shorthanded, tired having flown in from Arizona, and little team chemistry with so many new arrivals and departures from the Harden trade. However, Detroit has a knack for snatching defeat out of the jaws of victory.

But the Pistons were embarrassed by their loss at Atlanta. Blowing a 17-point fourth quarter, followed by a five-point overtime lead that went poof. If they have any pride, Detroit will come out and clobber the Rockets. But, being the Pistons, I am afraid they will let Houston back in at the end and win by a point or two.
