Detroit Pistons: Blake Griffin and Derrick Rose are bad examples to follow

No. 2: Hero Ball

Watching Derrick Rose and Blake Griffin play iso ball down the stretch against the Atlanta Hawks was maddening.

Rose took several poor shots in the 4th quarter when he did the thing where he puts his head down, dribbles for 20 seconds and ignores everyone else on the team.

Rose had 14 points on 15 shots and had as many turnovers (1) as assists.

Blake was slightly better against the Hawks but he too took some terrible hero-ball shots down the stretch that would have had Sekou Doumbouya benched for a month.

This is not only hurting the team’s chances of winning but what exactly are the young players learning by watching this style of basketball?

Most teams are going away from iso play in favor of ball movement and spacing, but the Pistons suddenly revert to a 1990’s style offense as soon as the game gets close.

No chemistry is developed when guys are standing around watching teammates dribble, especially if they are doing it from the bench.

Enough already. No one wants to lose games watching the offense slow to a halt and two old guys dribbling the ball.
