Detroit Pistons: Could the Pistons make a trade?

Some additional trade pieces

Coming into the season, the Detroit Pistons had a bunch of young guys trying to earn minutes and so far they really haven’t.

Killian Hayes got injured and is unfortunately out for the season. Saddiq Bey got plenty of run early but has been in and out of the rotation since.

Same with Isaiah Stewart and Sekou Doumbouya, who have mostly been watching games from the bench, especially in the 4th quarter.

The reason for this is that Dwane Casey is trying to win and thinks this is the best way to do it, but also that the Pistons are trying to show their veterans have some value.

We know Detroit would unload Blake Griffin if they could do it without taking on an even worse contract, but that is probably not going to happen unless he turns things around.

Derrick Rose is an attractive target given his production and team-friendly contract that ends after this season.

But the Pistons might have a couple of other guys who will have value down the road. Mason Plumlee has played well so far and looks like a solid backup center who can rebound and pass.

His $8 million contract now looks like a value that the Pistons can move in the future for an asset.

Same with Wayne Ellington, who has shot the ball well lately and could add some veteran shooting to a contender’s bench.

These signings didn’t look great at the time but these guys could end up having more value than we initially thought.

For a team that is trying to rebuild, things have started pretty well for the Detroit Pistons. Their goals of building the right type of culture and developing their young talent are happening faster than expected.

As the season goes on and some of the veterans are traded, the young guys will get even more minutes.

The first month has been a success for the Detroit Pistons.
