Detroit Pistons vs. Los Angeles Lakers: Injury report
The Detroit Pistons will have Blake Griffin, who sat out the Cleveland game for load management. Derrick Rose usually does not do back-to-backs, but it is hard to believe he will not play against the Lakers. Of course, Killian Hayes remains out with a torn labrum.
The big question for the Lakers is: Will LeBron James and/or Anthony Davis, sit this one out? The official injury report is not issued until 1:30 pm, so they do not have to say anything until then, or maybe list them as questionable, and wait until right before the game. The Lakers just had a tough game in Philadelphia, where they both played major minutes. It would not be surprising if one, or both, sat out.
UPDATED (3 PM): Anthony Davis will not play due to a quad contusion.
Pistons odds against Los Angeles Lakers on Thursday
Detroit Pistons: They are coming off a flat, turnover-strewn, performance against Cleveland. The Pistons had given the 76ers, who just beat the Lakers, two tough games right before playing the Cavaliers. They are pretty healthy, and at home (if that means anything) and should be fired up to face the defending NBA champs.
Los Angeles Lakers: They are coming off a tough loss to the 76ers and then had to immediately step on a plane to Detroit, so a letdown is possible. They could also be ticked off, and take it out on the Pistons. This could be a load management game for several of their key players. Will the rest of the team step up, Philly’s did not on Monday and Detroit crushed them.
Pistons odds best bet: (2-2): Go with Pistons and take the points (not heavy though)
Detroit usually does not play two lousy games in a row. After a stinker against Cleveland, they will be looking for redemption . Also, if Davis or James do not play, that changes the dynamic.
The Lakers have other good players, so they will be pretty competitive no matter what. My gut feeling is, at least one of their two stars sits out this one.
If you can’t get up for playing the champs, you should not be playing in the NBA. Griffin will be rested and motivated. Everyone on the Pistons should be ready for this one. Remember (except for last night), the Pistons do not get blown out, but they have not faced a team like the Lakers either.
