It’s official. The Detroit Pistons have agreed to trade Derrick Rose to the New York Knicks.

The deal has been reported by James Edwards of the Athletic and dropped by Shams Charania on Twitter:

The Detroit Pistons will apparently take back Dennis Smith Jr. a player currently in the G-League and future draft compensation.

Smith Jr. is not likely to be part of the Pistons’ long-term plans, so this trade really comes down to the draft compensation.

But what could it be? Here are some guesses.

What draft picks will Detroit Pistons get for Derrick Rose?

The Pistons aren’t likely to get a first-round pick for Derrick Rose, so we can probably forget that pipe dream.

It’s possible the Knicks’ pick from Dallas might have been on the table if Dallas wasn’t currently in the lottery.

However, the Knicks also have a 2nd-round pick that might not be much worse, as it is one they are set to receive from the Pistons.

That’s right, the best deal the Pistons can hope for is to get their own second-round pick back from the Knicks, which wouldn’t be the worst deal in the world.

If the Pistons end up in the top-five of the draft, which they are headed for, then that pick could be near the top of the second round, which would be in the low 30’s.

There have been a lot of players found in this range, so the Pistons would at least get a chance at finding some young talent.

The Pistons might even be able to pry another future 2nd-round pick from the Knicks.

They aren’t taking on any future salary and could end up with a borderline first-round pick, which is not a bad haul for Derrick Rose.
