Detroit Pistons: Kyle Lowry vs. the Pistons’ young guards

The Detroit Pistons have had bad and good luck at point guard this season.

It was bad luck when Killian Hayes and then Delon Wright went down with injury, but it was good luck that Dennis Smith Jr. and Saben Lee have stepped up in their absence.

This will be a tough test for the young point guards as Lowry is not only big and strong for the position but has one of the highest basketball I.Q.’s  in the NBA and will likely be putting on a clinic vs. Smith Jr. and rookie Lee.

Both of these young guards can learn a lot from Lowry, who is still very effective even though he has lost a step or two.

Smith Jr. in particular should pay attention to Lowry, especially on the defensive end, as they are similarly sized and both pride themselves on their defense.

Lowry is one of the more underrated team defenders in the league and is still averaging over a steal a game at age 34.

Dennis Smith Jr. is out there to compete obviously but he should also be trying to pick up things from Lowry in terms of positioning and how he plays the game.

Playing against savvy veterans can be a great learning experience, especially for young point guards trying to fight their way into a future roster spot.
